It seems everything we have nowadays uses a laser. From hair removal to teeth whitening, laser beams are everywhere. Well we can add one more thing to that list. There is a laser called the femtosecond laser that is used to detect cancer and destroy cancer cells. It is said that brain tumor patients will be great for this treatment.
The femtosecond laser releases high speed light pulses at one-quadrillionth of a second. The light pulses are very short, but allows better coverage in a small region and provides a high intensity radiation beam. It is a very fast process.
Researchers say that because of the accuracy, safety, and effectiveness of the femtosecond laser, patients could be moving from the OR to the outpatient room faster than expected. In fact, they might just stay in the outpatient room.
Read this article from cNet News. I think this new treatment is very predictable (since lasers are in EVERYTHING) but it's very useful
